This was entirely a location shoot. Most of it was daytime exteriors, but we had one day of interiors. We utilized the THD HMI package and the standard TURNKEY HD grip package and it was more then enough to create the fantastic images we captured. Ed asked me to be his gaffer. Naturally, I knew the Turnkey Sprinter really well and was able to outfit it with exactly what we needed.
We worked with Key Grip Jerry Giacalone who is a seasoned crew member. This shoot fit the Turnkey model perfectly. It was a web based corporate commercial project with a lot of quick set ups, all on location with a modest budget. We were moving around quite a bit with the Sprinter within each day. The Sprinter packs up quickly to make moves and is easy to park. We shot at the Pan Pacific Park in central Los Angeles and then moved around doing man on the street interviews. The interviews were set up with a few HMI's and a bounce.
When we moved inside on day 3 we were very well equipped to light the photo studio that was doubling as a location. The Barger Bag lite was critical in creating a soft key while the 1200 Arri HMI Par bounced was more then enough to fill the room with ambient.
The director Patrick Lewtschanyn was a shining example of the new guard of filmmakers who are focused, adept and calm. I was very impressed with how easy everyone from the Chicago and Los Angeles production crew was to work with. We welcome them back anytime and hope that more and more clients see the benefit of working with a mobile studio set up like Turnkey HD.
